This Hotel Room

This video is already available on Margaritaville.com, but it’s too cool not to share here too.  Besides, they’ve got it in the wrong aspect ratio over there.  Here’s Jimmy and the Reefers rehearsing “Take Another Road” in an Atlanta hotel room.

11:11 - I wasn’t sure if this story was appropriate any more: two candidates for North Carolina senate were squabbling over Gulf Coast “tourists covered in oil”.  (This was before the BP oil rig disaster.)
11:19 - “HarperCollins to publish Bruce Cockburn’s memoir”, from National Post
16:00 - Jimmy at the Lost party, from From the Hallelujah to the Hoot
16:45 - Jorge Garcia on Jimmy Kimmel Live, from Tuesday, May 4 2010

Off the top of my head:
A Pirate Looks at Forty
Why Don’t We Get Drunk
That one song, Mar-guh-reeta-ville?
Cuban Crime of Passion
Somewhere Over China
OPH
Cocotel
CILCIA
Manana (updated lyrics, perhaps with a Downriver slant, maybe the Mighty North Coast Players can conduct one of their famous writing sessions - I am serious)
Some off the new album (NOT the chill the rose song, don’t worry Scott)
Three words:  Tin Cup Chalice (and perhaps the Wings will have the cup by then)

Top Ten

Just catching up on old shows on my DVR, and caught this oblique Buffett reference in Wednesday’s Late Show with David Letterman.  Not one of his best, but it fits the criterion to be included here.  I’ve included the whole ten for the sake of completion…and for the huge belly laughs, of course…

JB&ZB

Just like little kids peeking under the circus tent, we’ve been able to get an extra look at this year’s Under the Big Top tour.  A BTTour account has been set up on Ustream, allowing us to catch live streaming video of concert performances and sound checks.  The fan sites discovered it in time for Saturday’s show and Jimmy himself mentioned it during the pre-show interview tonight.  The videos are, sadly, not being archived— evidently you have to catch them live—but here’s a little two-minute clip we managed to capture, of Zac Brown’s guest appearance at Tuesday’s Atlanta show…

Episode 126: Dagadagadagadagadannnng!

Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, April 21 2010 (9:30 PM - 11:00 PM) at Joe’s Prime Time, Gibraltar MI
“Season 9 already?  The boys share their initial reactions to Encores, and Schmoe ... well, the less said about his subplot the better

Dank!  (Can’t forget that little stinger after the big final chord.)
00:09 - Martian Invasion of Races
    00:33 - Body Glide
01:01 - I bet I know why! Cactus Boy and Cactus Boy 2
01:31 - if you still want to after seeing the following photo, you can befriend Schmoe on Facebook

Yaaay!   ....Eewwwww!

04:09 - “Fun Run” was the two-part fourth season premiere of The OfficeRead about it at the Office Tally fan site.
05:27 - a reference to a story Schmoe told at the end of Episode 113B
05:56 - we did brainstorm some nipple-related show names, but ultimately rejected them.  Besides, it was likely the names would’ve been censored by some podcatcher programs and sites.
08:30 - “Buffett to Expand Business Empire to Middle East”, from Buffett World
10:12 - Hollywood FL opts for Margaritaville over Planet Hollywood: Buffett News mention | Buffett World mention
10:24 - the World Beer Cup site.  (The competition was held in Chicago, not Colorado.  Either my eyesight has really gone or the article I read originated from Colorado.)  List of World Beer Cup 2010 winners.  And the winners’ sites: Tiger Crystal, Quilmes Cristal. and Landshark Lager
    11:04 - GAC’s The Collection link
11:37 - I wish the levels were better, so it would be easier to make out what Alan Jackson is saying, but that audio mix is straight from the TV show
12:38 - “Jimmy Buffett” on South Park #200 and #201.  (“Jimmy” shows up in both but only speaks in the first.)
    13:09 - play the Where’s Jimmy?© game:

South Park 200 in HD

13:51 - “Buffett Lecture at University of Miami”, from Buffett News
14:15 - National Record Store Day
    14:40 - Dearborn Music link
    14:52 - Encores at Walmart.com and at M’ville.com
17:07 - my obligatory Whedonesque reference
21:23 - Hits Daily Double prediction: Buffett News mention | Buffett World mention
22:40 - I’m in error here, evidently getting my tours confused.  Tim Krekel passed away June 24 2009, a year after most of Encores was recorded.
28:45 - added four videos to our VHS Tape Library on April 1: the Today show (1998), Larry King Live (1998), Charlie Rose (1999), and the Tonight show (1999)
29:05 - split the RSS feed, early in the morning on April 2: link for the up-to-date feed, link for the archive feed.  (Paste those links into your podcatcher software.)
30:54 - iTunes link to archive feed (and, what the heck, here’s the iTunes link for the up-to-date feed too)
31:30 - Skype us at NorthCoastCast
32:06 - added photos from 1997 and 1998 on April 16 to our Gallery, and photos from May 1996 and June 1996 on April 17

Episode 125: The Regional Pope of Southeast Michigan

Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, March 31 2010 (10:30 PM - 11:30 PM) at Zodiac Racquet Club, Southgate MI
“A look at the Encores track list, rumors of Jimmy playing the Super Bowl, and lots less on the next Wastin’ Away on the North Coast.  Stay tuned.  (Special guest: Jennifer.)

01:33 - Buffett on the shortlist for Super Bowl halftime: Buffett News mention | Buffett World mention
    01:45 - as discussed in Episode 120
03:53 - Buffett Info.com’s Facebook group page for Buffett at the Super Bowl
04:33 - I had a good time making fun of the spelling of “preform” in the title, but had to take it all back when the group name got changed
04:49 - Encores track list: Buffett News mention | Buffett World mention
    05:03 - Walmart.com’s Encores pre-order page
    05:38 - Buffett News’s Setlist Database
07:05 - Encores at Mailboat Records.  According to the sound samples. “Tin Cup Chalice” is not from our 2008 Pine Knob show
09:01 - as discussed near the end of Episode 115
10:26 - Buffett surfing in St Barths, according to Buffett News
10:39 - Buffett playing in Panama City FL: Buffett News mention | Buffett World mention
14:51 - we assumed jennifer must be a huge fan of Romeo Void’s “Never Say Never” every Wednesday, but she told us recently that there’s one guy who requests it every time he shows up.  Incidentally, “A Void of Romeo Void” was in contention for show name.
15:03 - Scott e-mailed us four times that afternoon to tell us about his school’s road rally fundraiser and how he would be expecting to take money from us…and then he never showed up for the podcast
17:53 - or one of Santa’s helpers, more like
20:08 - you know, there probably should be a double-entendre alarm here too

Episode 124: See Empty Crosswords

Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, March 24 2010 (10:00 PM - 12:00 AM) at Zodiac Racquet Club, Southgate MI
“The boys discuss Buffett & the Reefers’ recent appearance with Zac Brown Band on CMT Crossroads and then round the night off with a special, extended joke cavalcade.  (Special guest: Jennifer.  Cameos by Joe Maj & Jacob.)

01:02 - tonight’s recording was preceded by an FSGL rules meeting to recapitulate the annual transition from wallyball to golf.  It was thought the meeting might impede on recording time, but we managed to get a podcast in before it got to late.  Which is all to preface mentioning the Mike saying “parenthetically” was to tease Schmoe for using the term during the meeting.
01:25 - Buffett News on Margaritaville Nashville setbacks
02:24 - Buffett World on Niagara Falls Café job fair
    03:20 - Watch Crossroads online at CMT.com
04:50 - Buffett News report, which we should’ve read more closely before our show
12:18 - Zac Brown Band’s “Toes” video, on YouTube
16:11 - regarding the band lineup, Buffett News says: “They split it up into 2 sets, first the Zac Brown Band sang and then Buffett’s set.  During the Zac Brown set Nadirah, Tina, Robert, Ralph, and Utley were also on stage.  Mac joined for the final 2 songs. During Jimmy’s set Roger Guth, Will Kimbrough, and Uncle Jim joined the party.”  I guess we got fooled by the editing.
20:36 - first clip, from The Colbert Report on Thursday, March 11

As seen on The Colbert Report

Coincidentally, @StephenTColbert repeated this same list on Twitter shortly after Episode 124 went online
21:10 - second clip from The Colbert Report on Wednesday, March 17.  The author is Nell Irvin Painter and the book is The History of White People.
29:02 - joke lifted from Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, but I can’t remember the episode number any more
P.S.: Hud did not stick around for the to the recording, but he still wanted to add the following observation: Jimmy is starting to look just like sportscaster and former coach Dick Vitale, who appeared in a commercial during the initial airing of CMT Crossroads.

Separated at birth? (From the Feet in the Paint blog.)
