Episode 128: Tarballs

Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, May 19 2010 (9:00 PM - 10:30 PM) at Joe’s Prime Time, Gibraltar MI
“Scott’s back.  Mike talks about his Florida vacation and the boys rant about the gaffe in the Gulf.  A bit longer than expected, but it does include two concert roundups and was recorded in two locations.

03:10 - Tom Petty was on the SNL 35th season finale, May 15 2010, with guest host Alec Baldwin
07:38 - “Margaritaville Gets a Makeover”, from Buffett World
    08:43 - the Wayback Machine at Archive.org
09:01 - Mike and Schmoe’s blog and their FSGL site
09:21 - Sherman, not to be confused with Shurman
09:30 - Roger Clyne, at the Live Music Archive
    09:41 - Lulu’s op-ed, and, while we’re at it, Lulu’s website
19:13 - I was trying to joke that Mike’s concern about “the environment” might be about what was going on in our room right then.  We’ve gotten kind of used to people passing through our recording studio to go out to the patio and smoke (even though, nowadays, that is just as illegal as smoking inside the bar), but we’ve never had people walk in, turn the electronic dart board on, and start playing!
24:14 - sorry guys, those glitches were part of the original Radio Margaritaville broadcast.  I even recorded the concert’s replay but the glitches were repeated then too.
31:34 - I really should’ve set the mic in place before recording
    33:25 - a reference to Episode 41
38:30 - I’m pretty sure the name has been mentioned in other episodes, but it got bleeped here anyway.
    40:50 - Goin’ Coastal
41:52 - the picture Mike sent us
43:56 - double basses.  I meant, double basses.
48:24 - a bonus, from the Late Show with David Letterman after we recorded our podcast

This Hotel Room

This video is already available on Margaritaville.com, but it’s too cool not to share here too.  Besides, they’ve got it in the wrong aspect ratio over there.  Here’s Jimmy and the Reefers rehearsing “Take Another Road” in an Atlanta hotel room.

    02:58 - http://www.ustream.tv/bttour

07:30 - “Buffett to appear on new Zac Brown Band Album, from Buffett News

09:09 - “Buffett to visit Jamaica”, from Buffett News
10:19 - “Buffett Comments on Aviation Route Named After Him, from Buffett World
11:11 - I wasn’t sure if this story was appropriate any more: two candidates for North Carolina senate were squabbling over Gulf Coast “tourists covered in oil”.  (This was before the BP oil rig disaster.)
11:19 - “HarperCollins to publish Bruce Cockburn’s memoir”, from National Post
16:00 - Jimmy at the Lost party, from From the Hallelujah to the Hoot
16:45 - Jorge Garcia on Jimmy Kimmel Live, from Tuesday, May 4 2010
36:20 - this is the list Schmoe was trying to remember, from his May 4 e-mail:

Off the top of my head:
A Pirate Looks at Forty
Why Don’t We Get Drunk
That one song, Mar-guh-reeta-ville?
Cuban Crime of Passion
Somewhere Over China
OPH
Cocotel
CILCIA
Manana (updated lyrics, perhaps with a Downriver slant, maybe the Mighty North Coast Players can conduct one of their famous writing sessions - I am serious)
Some off the new album (NOT the chill the rose song, don’t worry Scott)
Three words:  Tin Cup Chalice (and perhaps the Wings will have the cup by then)
