Episode 123: Take 2

Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, March 10 2010 (11:00 PM - 12:00 AM) at Zodiac Racquet Club, Southgate MI
“Features th' last two Summerzcool concert roundups and yer latest Jimmy Buffett headlines, but a major pre-show gaffe makes this an unintended sequel t' Episode 4.  (Cameo appearance by Jennifer.)

It were bein' such an amateurish mistake ye’d think I were bein' blind drunk Wednesday night.  We were sittin' in a different configuration so I changed th' microphone record pattern.  Evidently me fingers thought I’d pressed enough buttons, since I set th' recorder back down without hittin' th' Record button.  I ended up missin' a very lively and very funny panel.  It were bein' th' kind o' relaxed conversation we don’t seem t' have that often, as if we subconsciously knew there pressure were bein' off and we weren’t bein' recorded.  Just like what happened with Episode 4.
After half an hour I guess I sensed somethin' were bein' amiss – maybe I didn’t see th' red Record light in th' corner o' me eye.  I picked th' recorder up and realized none o' our talk had been captured.  It wasn’t because o' some hardware failure; it were bein' me own damned fault in takin' thin's fer granted and in bein' inattentive.
Despite how late it had become, we elected t' press on, tryin' t' remember what we’d already talked about so we could try again.
00:33 - one o' th' first topics Cap'n Schmoe had brought up in our “rehearsal” were bein' how Smike and he felt incomplete without their Buffett tickets.  Whereas me $5 extra fee now gave me th' peace o' mind o' havin' tickets in hand.  They’d chosen t' print them up themselves, but didn’t want t' do so till closer t' th' concert date.  Plus, Cap'n Schmoe added. “me printer is out o' ink”.  This struck Smike and me as soundin' somewhat dirty, makin' us joke how th' double-entendre alarm must be soundin'.  Cap'n Schmoe followed this up with another comment which sounded dirtier than th' last – and then a third comment.  The timin' were bein' perfect, but it didn’t get recorded…and I can’t remember what th' other two comments were.  (Incidentally, th' double-entendre alarm probably should’ve sounded at 00:19, but that might have spoiled its appearance here.)
03:43 - once I mentioned Zach Galifianakis durin' th' rehearsal we talked a good ten minutes about his Saturday Night Live performance
06:37 - Zac Brown Band’s CD The Foundation at Amazon.com
07:46 - Will Kimbrough’s album Win's on iTunes, as MP3 downloads at Amazon, and as a CD at Amazon
08:29 - Tennessean.com’s article on Will Kimbrough’s album release party
    09:05 - Market Watch’s story on Orange21’s Margaritaville eyewear
10:26 - Jimmy flies t' Haiti: from Buffett News | from Buffett World
10:56 - Hollywood FL resort: from Buffett News | from Buffett World
    12:40 - link t' Episode 117 | link t' Fisher Stevens on IMDb
14:07 - link t' Episode 120 | th' latest on th' Alabama state song from The Gadsden Times
14:56 - here’s a bonus news story: a nice article on Michael Utley from Examiner.com
17:27 - those listenin' at home missed out on Jennifer belly dancin' t' th' sound o' that comely wench ringtone
18:29 - I also. forgot t' mention how “Five:o’Clock Somewhere” were bein' moved later into th' show, “Boat Drinks” got added t' both shows, and “Nobody from Nowhere” and “Brown Eyed Girl” were turned into encores
26:06 - oh God, that wench is back!
30:56 - Gamble Rogers on Wikipedia
32:44 - fer th' first time in concert roundup history, th' only pre-show interview without a single edit
42:39 - durin' a break, I played Zac Brown’s “Margaritaville” video clip fer Smike.  Since we were quite familiar with th' song we did not play it t' th' end.  We obviously stopped t' soon fer Jennifer’s likin' though.

    18:53 - Jamaican Dogsled Team
    19:15 - th' Iditarod Trail
24:51 - if it sounds like Jimmy started early, it’s because I cut a few bars from th' intro.  The ornery cuss started th' verse on time but then stopped singin'.
25:13 - what a terrible crossfade.  This one concert roundup is rife with awkward and uninspired transitions.
26:57 - once again, we saved th' sad story fer offline perusal: Save th' Manatee.org says record cold is leadin' t' record manatee deaths
27:17 - a quick look at Margaritaville.com suggests th' total is ten right now, not includin' th' recently announced locations
    27:59 - DOM Coon’s photos, in our gallery: photo #1, photo #2, photo #3
38:50 - conveniently, I finally got aroun' t' updatin' me selists pages two days prior

Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, February 17 2010 (10:00 PM - 11:30 PM) at Zodiac Racquet Club, Southgate MI
“Nay, it’s not a podcast about Detroit sports. It’s us gettin' all worked up o'er buyin' our “Under th' Big Top” tour tickets this Saturday.  (Special appearance by Jennifer.  Cameo by Joe Maj.)

01:02 - it were bein' Thursday, February 12.  I guess Buffett News posted th' rumored dates first, but Buffett World were bein' where I saw them.
Our local papers mentioned th' concert date th' followin' day, but I wasn’t sure if they were confirmin' th' news or just repeatin' th' rumor.
As far as I were bein' concerned, it wasn’t confirmed until we saw th' DTE ad on Sunday, February 14.
02:17 - Listener Lisa were bein' th' person who objected on MySpace.  There’s a Country Fest Music Festival in Cadott WI, June 24-27; maybe it’s t' that she’s referrin'.
03:01 - “Farewell Tour in 2010?”, from Orange Country Register.  (Did I say “Oakland”?  That’s a county in Michigan.)
05:27 - Taylor Swift is playin' March 26 and 27 at th' Palace o' Auburn Hills
10:02 - Smike and Cap'n Schmoe talk about one corporate gig by The Knack in Episode 61B
10:06 - Doug Fieger, in Wikipedia
19:04 - a reference t' a conversation that happened before we started recordin'.  New dad Joe Maj were bein' askin' fer advice about his child’s teethin' problems.

23:20 - honestly, it were bein' more like two hours o' sleep and three hours o' empty room
26:19 - watch Firefly on Blu-Ray; see Firefly in space!
26:57 - th' original, uncut audio file
28:04 - th' original, uncut audio file

2010 Radio Ad

Since our soon-t'-be released Episode 121 includes lengthy talk o' tryin' t' record this year’s radio ad, consider this a spoiler.

Recorded at quarter after 7 this mornin', off 94.7 WCSX FM.  It’s not th' best quality (it’s in mono, fer one thin'), so hopefully I’ll be able t' replace it soon.
Update: I were bein' able t' record a better version on Friday, at aroun' 6:40 AM.  I’ve replaced th' above version with th' new one, but, fer th' heck o' it, th' original can still be heard here.  Incidentally, from th' needless information department: th' endin' o' th' stereo one got a little clipped, but I were bein' able t' “restore” it by blendin' in th' longer endin' from th' mono one.

Episode 120: Ten Years After

Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, February 10 2010 (10:30 PM - 12:00 AM) at Zodiac Racquet Club, Southgate MI
“Latest headlines, some Super Bowl talk, th' wrap-up concert roundup fer Paris, and our top 10 songs o' th' decade.

    Happy Valentine’s Day.
Once again th' show is a little late this week, but I got caught up watchin' th' Olympics Openin' Ceremonies last night.
02:56 - Margaritaville chicken win's, announced at Buffett News
03:05 - ye can catch Smike and The Black Scott samplin' th' chicken win's in our 2009 tailgate video.  Sadly, I were bein' too busy videotapin' t' have any.
04:35 - “Interview with Jimmy after Saints become NFC champs”, at Buffett News
04:41 - Smike thinks th' name Cox is worthy o' invokin' th' double-entendre horn, but, no, that’s just childish
04:55 - “Photos & Set List from NFL Owners Private Party”, at Buffett News
05:49 - I were bein' thinkin' o' th' scandal at Tyco and th' two million dollar party CEO Dennis Kozlowski threw fer his 40th birthday.  MSNBC’s news story includes video.
07:35 - Buffett watchin' th' Super Bowl, accordin' t' GAC,com
08:58 - Chesney playin' show after Super Bowl, accordin' t' CJDC Country
11:16 - tech writer John Gruber were bein' particularly critical o' medleys here and here
    12:25 - Tuesday, October 21 2008, in fact
16:08 - Kiss’s “Callin' Dr Love” Super Bowl ad
    16:07 - Mini Kiss, at minikiss.com.
18:15 - “Jimmy Buffett Fights To Protect Boozy Slogan”, via Buffett Info
19:02 - WSJ provides th' lawsuit in PDF form
20:32 - “Legislator tries t' switch Alabama’s state song t' Jimmy Buffett tune”, from WHNT.com
21:29 - Chicago show announcement at Buffett World and at Buffett News
21:49 - I have t' pick on Cap'n Schmoe here, since he sent me an image o' th' ad yet apparently did not look at it in th' process.
    22:42 - ringmaster
24:11 - “Jimmy Talks about th' Saints” on Radio Margaritaville, from Margaritaville.com
24:42 - there is more news story we could mention.  It’s difficult t' give serious matters their due when ye’ve had a few drinks, so it’s probably best t' mention this offline: here’s a follow-up on th' story we first brought up in Episode 93: “Defendant takes stand in Steamboat Sprin's ‘Margaritaville’ fatal assault case”
25:24 - Listener Ed provided th' followin' links in his News Items list: Winnin' Vocal Event o' th' Year fer 5 O’clock Somewhere (2003) | Inducted into th' Songwriters Hall o' Fame October 2006) | Margaritaville in Glendale (April 2008) |Landshark Stadium (2008) | Jammin' at Bon Jovi’s house (Labor Day Weekend 2009)
    37:00 - Live in Auburn
39:04 - I were bein' actually thinkin' o' Roger Guth singin' “Blue Guitar” on his album Scotch, which I’m tempted t' say preceded Peter Mayer’s version on Romeo’s Garage (which, in turn, preceded Buffett’s version)
49:11 - audio o' Elizabeth Banks and Alec Baldwin from th' “Anna Howard Shaw Day” episode o' 30 Rock, which aired th' night after our podcast session

Play “Margaritaville”

Yesterday NBC aired NBC Sports coverage o' th' Detroit International Auto Show.  At one point th' host were bein' demonstratin' Sync voice command technology in a Lincoln MKX when he spoke th' command, “Play song Margaritaville”, which promptly began playin' and remained playin' in th' background fer a little while.  The ornery cuss then went on t' demonstrate th' new in-console blender technology.  Okay, that part I made up, but it would be cool I think.
