Evidently they are eating quite well. Meals Ready to Eat, or MREs, were derided as &#8220;Meals Rejected by Ethiopians&#8221; during the first Gulf war, but today&#8217;s MRE and the new improved MRE-Plus are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lacrossetribune.com\/articles\/2003\/03\/09\/news\/4mre.txt\" title=\"Link to to Lacrosse (Wisconsin) Tribune story\">healthier than ever<\/a>, with a much better variety. Some meals can even be heated up through a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eurekalert.org\/pub_releases\/2003-03\/riot-mh031803.php\" title=\"Link to a story on the Rochester Institute of Technology\">water and magnesium combination<\/a>. (An MRE FAQ can be found in Google&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/groups.google.com\/groups?selm=3nmljs%24dal%40xring.cs.umd.edu&#038;output=gplain\">newsgroup<\/a> section.)<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; The soldiers especially like the desserts, such as chocolate bars and Chiclets, which are tradable. &#8220;&#8216;Beef stew&#8217; is a favorite, because it includes jalape\u00f1o cheese spread, which soldiers prefer to fortified peanut butter,&#8221; according to one  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csmonitor.com\/2003\/0325\/p03s01-woiq.html\" title=\"Link to Christian Science Monitor article\">article<\/a>. The meals also come with a small bottle of Tabasco. Says Specialist Kelly Rowland, &#8220;Tabasco saves everything.&#8221;<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; What were once C-rations served in cans are now packaged in easily transportable <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knoxnews.com\/kns\/dining\/article\/0,1406,KNS_309_1836118,00.html\" title=\"Link to Knoxnews.com story\">pouches<\/a>.
