The Agriculture Department has decreed that <a href=\"http:\/\/story.news.yahoo.com\/news?tmpl=story&#038;u=\/ap\/20040615\/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe\/french_fries_vegetables_1\">batter-coated frozen French fries are a fresh vegetable<\/a>. This may prove one of two things: the Bush administration really likes to pick on French fries, or they are so desperate to align themselves with memories of Ronald Reagan they&#8217;re willing to relive that whole &#8220;ketchup is a vegetable&#8221; fiasco.<br>&nbsp; &nbsp; As if to distance themselves from the latter, the department is quick to point out the ruling is only for commerce and does not reflect the nutritional value of battered-coated French fries.
