Billboard

Back in Episode 105, we lamented the lack of a Landshark advertising campaign. We’d seen the Landshark surfboard in bars, but nothing nearing the wealth of TV commercials and posters and print ads from the likes of Corona or Bud Light Lime. That said, over the weekend, on the west side of Michigan (fittingly, where we got our first taste of Landshark), I saw my first Landshark billboard, on westbound I-94 by Vineland.
It’s the same message as the web ad, but, at the very least, it’s bigger than a poster.

Photo is a little blurry. I shot it through the window of a moving vehicle.

Pine Knob Tailgate (2009)

Straight from the lab, its reels still drying, here’s our tailgate video from Thursday’s concert. We start off at Schmoe’s Cantina, pay a visit to St Hedwig’s, drive up to Clarkston, meet up with Schmoe and Co again, encounter lots of Woo Girls, see another great show, and, ultimately, return to the cantina.
    Thus…

In total, viewable at YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, Vimeo and Viddler.

A Pleasure and a Hell of an Evening (2009 Edition)

Buffett Day has come and gone in Michigan. The concert is over and, as Mike would say, Summer is now over too. SunLover over at the Buffett News discussion board has made MP3s of the concert available, if you didn’t catch it or want to hear it again. I’m working on a quick little tailgate video from yesterday, but for now here are some cellphone photos I took during the show.

Club Trini Live (2000)

I uncovered this footage today and whipped up a new video to accompany the 1999 one. It’s not quite as polished as that one, mainly because I realized too late my camcorder was losing battery power — which explains the choppiness before the video ends.
Nevertheless, here’s a look at Pine Knob Tailgating 2000.

Club Trini Live (1999)

I know I should be finishing Episode 105, but instead I’ve dug into the archives to reassemble a new edit of Club Trini performing in the Pine Knob parking lot, June 8 1999. The edits might be a little abrupt, but this is pretty much everything I shot that day.

Cheeseburger in Caseville 2009

During tonight’s visit to Key West Coffee & Café (as discussed in Episode 104), we got to wondering whether we should try going back to the Cheeseburger Festival in Caseville MI. It runs this year from August 7 to August 16, which means it’s possible we could go there immediately following our Pine Knob concert and make it one helluva Buffetty weekend!
Once we saw the new logo for this year’s festival, their 11th annual, we knew we had to go.
    …For Greg’s sake…

Guinea Pigging

The Boston Globe interviewed Jimmy, in advance of his two Mansfield shows (Thursday and Saturday). The interview is available at Boston.com, and midway through he mentions us northcoasters.

Q. How has the recession affected your tour? Is this the year the bubble bursts and some people will not come to see you?

A. No, we’re doing great. Thank God there are people out there who like what we’re doing. They haven’t put us on a list of things they’re not going to do because of the economy. This is their vacation and they’re not going to give it up. They may not go to Florida or buy a new car, but they won’t miss our show. I wanted to find out right away, so we went on sale early with a Detroit show — they’ve been as hard hit as anywhere — and it sold out in 20 minutes. I’m very grateful.

Happy to be your test kitchen, Jimmy.

Summerzcool Art Projects

We’re used to seeing Buffett references in “Arlo & Janis”, but we never expected him to show up in, of all things, “Blondie”!
This is the strip from Friday, June 12.

What makes Blondie stranger?

Also, Buffett World calls attention to an iPhone app designed for Jimmy Buffett fans and concertgoers. It’s called iEncore and is available in the iTunes App Store [link opens iTunes].

FIns to the future

We’ve tried to keep tabs on other Buffett-inspired and -related apps, check out the ever-growing list here.
Update: here’s another multimedia mention, from one podcast to another. The guys of the 24 Cast are now doing a podcast called The Complete Guide to Everything*. Their latest episode is about “Hamburgers” which leads to an extended segment on Jimmy Buffett. The clip is too long to include in one of our shows, so we’ll just link to the episode. The Buffett segment is 7:10 in and runs over four minutes (with a callback at 13:15). [Added 6/16]
