Mike, Scott, and Schmoe try out Roger Clyne’s new Mexican Moonshine tequila. Recorded Wednesday, October 27 2010, at Zodiac; with cameos by Joe Maj, James, and Jennifer. (Video might not be quite up to snuff; it was recorded on a cellphone.)

“The boys discuss how they spent their Summer vacations, with stories about Caseville, Parrothead Night with the Detroit Tigers, finding Margaritaville Rum, and uncovering a Landshark bottling mystery. Plus Scott reviews Tom Corcoran’s Key West book. (Cameo by Jennifer.)”
00:36 – looks like Scott last joined us back in Episode 129! Sheesh!
01:26 – our tenth season, right? But Season 9 feels like a writers’ strike season, since we did so few episodes. Or maybe an AMC season.
01:31 – watch the documentary and get the lowdown on that “shadows tall” line in the show notes for Episode 98
03:32 – apparently Schmoe thinks Caseville is like Brigadoon
03:47 – Cheeseburger in Caseville (and another link to our 2006 videos)
03:56 – No. In 2006 and 2007.

25:41 – here’s Schmoe’s photo, sent way back on the morning of July 31. We saved it for the podcast rather than posting it on Twitter; little did we know how long it would take till we got around to discussing it.
(the St Louis bottle is on the right) |
And here’s what Schmoe wrote to accompany the photo. We assume he was drunk.
Where is YOUR Landshark From?
To my fellow Shark lovers,
When Mick enlightened me this week that I had Landshark at Nate’s party that was from St Louis, I realized I look numerously at the ‘Jacksonville’ on the label and never saw another city. I checked it out and, YES, I had Sharks from both cities in the Cantina Icebox. Not only that, but the St Louis bottle is a shorter longneck. The St Louis brew was a full case I purchased. The Jacksonville lager was personally delivered inside a 12 pack per usual. (Still, Zodiac considers our beer an ‘import’, but I digress…)
I conducted a taste test last night. They both rated the same: wet, cold, smooth, lime-friendly, relaxing, and an excellent finish with a high chill factor.
I provided a photo for reference.
End of report…for now…….
29:01 – Caribbean Blue
30:51 – here’s some of Mike’s video footage from Comerica Park (uploaded September 6 but then revised and re-uploaded on the 7th)
All the mentions of Brian are explained in Episode 128.

43:18 – will Scott find Margaritaville Rum at Meijer’s? Stay tuned…
Schmoe talks the staff at Zodiac Health & Racquet Club (14795 Dix Toledo Rd, Southgate, MI) into making his signature drink, the Schmoenade™.
Shot Wednesday, July 7 2010 on Mickey’s iPhone 4, with guest appearances by Schmoe, Jennifer, Lee, Mike, Scott, Hud, Mickey, and Annie.
There were rumors in the parking lot that Bret Michaels had shown up in a limo and would be guesting onstage. Amazingly, Michaels actually did show up on stage, singing with Jimmy on “Margaritaville”. I tried to record the whole thing, but the best my iPhone 3G can shoot is at best about 6 frames a second. (Figures the brand new iPhone 4 can shoot in 720p, but wouldn’t be released till two days later). Luckily the “Margarillas” shot the song right from the stage and shared the video on Facebook and YouTube. The funny thing is the camera is facing our section of the crowd. If you look close enough (and you know whom to look for), you can spot me, Mike, and Mike’s sister and brother-in-law.
Update [6/30]: another video of this event has been posted, this time on Margaritaville.com’s Coconut Television page (found via Buffett World). Don’t mind that “Bret Michaels sings Margaritaville at Alpine Valley” caption; it’s still Pine Knob on Tuesday. (Also available in the Margaritaville and Bret Michaels channels on YouTube channel, but in a 4×3 square. Resized to a proper 16×9 here…)
Back home from another great Buffett show at Pine Knob. Here are a few images from our amazing Row A seats. I shot some video too but the quality is quite poor (my phone is two years old); I at least used it for the freeze-frames of Bret Michaels surprise duet on “Margaritaville” and when Jimmy came by us at the end of the show. The pictures have been upload to our Photo Gallery, or you can also check them out at my Flickr page or my Mobile Me gallery.
Update: our tailgate video was edited late in the afternoon and uploaded to Vimeo and YouTube:
Just back from tonight’s Parrot Head cruise, up and down the Detroit River. This was what we were talking about back in Episode 127, the cruise where Mike’s brother Jim (the singer of our theme song) was going to perform acoustic versions of Buffett songs. I shot video, recorded some audio, and also shot some photos with my cellphone. Some notable highlights included a pole dance to “Changes in Latitudes” — which I’m pretty sure has to be a world-record, history-making first — and that the drawing for the free concert tickets was won by our very own Schmoe!
After Mike’s news from two weeks ago, it’s almost getting to the point where we have more tickets than we know what to do with! …Not really, but close. And not that we’re complaining.
Hopefully I’ll be uploading the video soon, but until then here are the cellphone pictures, which I uploaded to our Photo Gallery.
Update: here’s the video .
This video is already available on Margaritaville.com, but it’s too cool not to share here too. Besides, they’ve got it in the wrong aspect ratio over there. Here’s Jimmy and the Reefers rehearsing “Take Another Road” in an Atlanta hotel room.
Just like little kids peeking under the circus tent, we’ve been able to get an extra look at this year’s Under the Big Top tour. A BTTour account has been set up on Ustream, allowing us to catch live streaming video of concert performances and sound checks. The fan sites discovered it in time for Saturday’s show and Jimmy himself mentioned it during the pre-show interview tonight. The videos are, sadly, not being archived — evidently you have to catch them live — but here’s a little two-minute clip we managed to capture, of Zac Brown’s guest appearance at Tuesday’s Atlanta show…

“Another fourcast, of the top JB events of the decade; plus a vacation report, some rants, and a roundup of the latest headlines. Special guests Patti and Hud. (Cameos by Jennifer and Lee.)”
Before we start, here are some hijinks recorded with my laptop, pre-podcast.
The silliness continued as we started brainstorming other business ventures in which Jimmy could invest. After restaurants and casinos, branching out into strip clubs seemed inevitable; and here are some of the names we came up with for such a Buffett-themed establishment:

With all that tomfoolery out of the way, here are the show notes:
00:09 – wow, that didn’t take long. Schmoe set off the double-entendre alarm already.

Fins Up!!” He also passed along a link to the story at WLOX, The Station for South Mississippi.

26:17 – I confess, there was such a big gap between this last segment and the next, the only way to disguise it was to cover it up with this little Tiki Bar TV promo
26:48 – Listener Josh wrote us on January 17
28:16 – I’m being overly generous. Hud’s right.

30:52 – the Buffett News timeline came in very handy in finishing our homework assignment

37:54 – if “Every time Mike says ‘shellback'” and “Every time Mike says his guitar number” aren’t in the rules of the WAOTNC Drinking Game, they darn well should be!
45:06 – The Paul Shaffer’s Day in Rock from January 16 could have been included in our previous episode, but missed it by mere minutes. Compare the comments to how Shaffer described the same incident last year, as heard in Episode 60.
