“Concert roundups from Mansfield and Burgettstown, and Annie joins us for a less-than-exhaustive report on her Florida vacation. (Guests: Annie and Nathan. Cameo by Lee.)

What? Two episodes in the same week?! Three episodes in eight days?!
01:26 – “Savannah Jane Buffett launches A1A apparel line&$8221;, from Buffett News | “Buffett’s Daughter Launches Clothing Line”, from Buffett World
    02:00Savannah Buffett’s website | the A1A clothing line
02:53 – “Jimmy on the Bob Edwards Show”, from Buffett World. The Bob Edwards podcast was discontinued shortly after I subscribed to it. I wonder if it had anything to do with my downloading 4GBs of old shows from them in one night.
04:17 – “Gulf Concert Earns ‘VH1 Do Something’ Nomination”, from Buffett World
04:30 – “Knee Deep reaches #1 on Billboard’s Country Chart”, from Buffett News | “Buffett Scores Second #1 with ‘Knee Deep’”, from Buffett World
05:03 – “Ralph MacDonald Honored in Stamford”, from Buffett News
05:47 – have yet to receive those photos
06:08Lulu’s Bait Shack in Ft Lauderdale
09:24 – the Bruins beat the Vancouver Canucks in seven games
24:56 – I don’t recall what Lee gave us, but here’s the link for M’ville spiked tea and lemonade
    26:01Twisted Tea — WAOTNC-approved!
31:13 – a slight edit, the sooner to get to Jimmy’s second mistake (of a song he’s done every show!)

Episode 152: Kings of Somewhere Hot

Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, July 27 2011 (10:00 PM – 11:30 PM) at Joe’s Prime Time, Brownstown MI
“You knew we couldn’t stop at just one. Mickey, Mike, and Schmoe continue recapping the 2011 Pine Knob show. (Cameos by Nathan and Tori.)

00:40 – despite making fun of it I ended up joining Foursquare half a month later
01:16 – she’s referring to the Edirol R-09. Now we use the Zoom H2.
    02:39 – Nate Dogg died March 15 2011
04:52 – as with the last episode, here’s Mike’s car thermometer (on Instagram)
07:10 – the footage I shot isn’t great, and I was planning on just using freeze-frames from it — but, what the heck, here’s a quickly edited tailgate video for you. It pretty much covers what we talk about: our arrival, the electric fan, the generator, the unremitting sun, the truck with the pool, the big empty space in front of the M’ville booths, the cheeseburger cookies, the hot tequila, the lighted fan, even Mike doing the shark jaws. Everything but the breast-glitter guy. (Sorry.)

    08:19 – hey, why not — here’s something else from the archives…

Greg & Cathy. August 9 1997.

(Other 1997 photos are in our Photo Gallery.)
20:13 – photos of Schmoe with Len & Shelly — and the rest of our photos from the 2011 concert — are also in our Gallery
37:49 – a Nathan Fillion quote, from the Firefly gag reel
43:40 – we’ll get to that concert roundup in Episode 156, along with the full concert roundup for Pine Knob.
47:48 – “Red Wiggler, the Cadillac of Worms”® is a sponsor mentioned in WKRP in Cincinnati. (I made it harder on myself by calling them “Red Wriggler”.)
48:16 – “Shark jaws” is the seldom-performed third step in the Fins Dance. We discussed this back in Episode 63.
55:27 – on May 30 2001, the Elevation Tour, at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The U2.com website then made it worse by referring to us as “Detroit, IN”.
57:40 – both these concert roundups were (are) part of the previous episode

Episode 151: Tales from the Tailgate

Show Notes:
Recorded Thursday, July 21 2011 (11:00 PM – 12:00 AM) at DTE Energy Music Theater, Clarkston MI
“The tailgate podcast, where Mike, Schmoe, and Mickey discuss this year’s Pine Knob concert immediately after seeing it. Also recapped are shows from Virginia Beach and Nashville. (Guests: Robert, Cindy, and Wayne.)

Special guests: Robert, Cindy, and Wayne

18:50 – the first of many. many, many breast glitter mentions. Almost lost in the archives is this cellphone video from Mike:

(We don’t know those women, by the way. They’re just average customers.)
I also only recently re-discovered these photos Schmoe had sent me.

From Schmoe’s crappy old cellphone

25:25 – “kidding on the square”: to kid, but to actually mean it. Popularized in Al Franken’s Lies: And the Lying Liars Who Tell Them
    27:10celebrated on Instagram
29:39Wallace getting dressed, from Wallace & Gromit’s The Wrong Trousers
    31:18Zumba Mexican Grille

Steambath and a Show

It was the hottest day of the year!
I’m still worn out from this year’s concert, but here are few notes about the day…
Mike did a more elaborate tailgate than usual, hooking up an inverter to his car battery to power a fan and his Frozen Concoction Maker. The parking lot was definitely a Barometer Soup and I’m not ashamed to admit I drank a lot more water than Landsharks or margaritas. We didn’t do a lot of wandering around, clinging too much to the shade of our canopy, but I still plan on whipping up another tailgate video soon. Watch this space. Maybe.
The crowd rallied enough to be loud and appreciative by show time; but the people around me were lame and sat down way too often.
Even after sundown, it was still quite hot. We recorded a podcast from the parking lot, but we sound so beat that it makes for some less than exciting listening.
For now, here’s a batch of photos I took of the day, in our photo gallery. A far cry from last year’s front row seats, but oh well…
And, ultimately, as always, it was a pleasure and a hell of an evening.

“Scott’s back, joining the gang in time to talk about next week’s Pine Knob concert and to look at the Frisco and Atlanta shows. (Special guests: Annie and Todd. Cameo by Jennifer.)

01:29 – those sounds are from Scott fidgeting with the GarageBand app on his iPad
03:08 – it’s actually Scott’s iPad camera that is being pointed at Annie. Later, I tried to fluster her by aiming my camera at her too.
04:58Where the Hell is Matt? (Detroit shows up at 1:13 in the the 2012 video. …And, no, we were unable to attend.)
05:27 – Schmoe doesn’t know the reference?! (Hint: “Holly came from Miami, F.L.A.” is the first line of Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side”.)
06:16 – have yet to receive anything
    07:08M’ville Nashville | M’ville Myrtle Beach

16:35 – yes, three episodes ago
30:45 – “the first version” refers to the song’s original recording on High Cumberland Jubilee
39:10 – “Jacqueline Kennedy: White House Tour”, full-length, on YouTube
49:26 – as before, these concert roundups are dropped in during the edit phase so the guys really have little idea what they’re commenting on
50:05 – Cuyahoga Falls is thirty-six miles south of Cleveland and five miles north of Akron

32:00here’s that poster again
36:00 – Jimmy’s comment about Pete’s hat followed “Life is Just a Tire Swing”. The discussion about “CILCIA” preceded “Pascagoula Run”.
38:50 – another time cut
39:29 – that was my iPhone! Good thing it tumbled onto the wooden floor of the tiki bar rather than the cement of the patio!
40:44 – actually, the power apparently came back on less than a half hour before this

07:51 – “Buffett & ZBB Nominated for CMT Music Award“, from Buffett News | “Buffett Earns CMT Music Award Nomination with Zac Brown Band“, from Buffett World. There’s Nothing Soft About Hard Teas, Part 2

I promised a review of the new Margaritaville products that I stumbled upon in Florida last week, so here you go:
Margaritaville Spiked Tea: Kind of a tea-like flavor. Lightly carbonated. On the sweet side. I found it to be quite refreshing. Great right from the bottle or over ice. This product is more like Mike’s Hard Iced Tea than it is like Twisted Tea. If I had to rank it among these, I would put it after Twisted Tea and before Mike’s. I would buy this again.
Margaritaville Spiked Lemonade: Not as sweet as some competitors. In fact, I found it to have a bitter edge to it. Descent lemon flavor comes through. Lightly carbonated. I didn’t care for the first one I had. I would not be able to drink a few of these in a row. Later in the week I gave it another chance over ice. That was better. Definitely more refreshing that way. Not sure I would buy this again, but wouldn’t turn one down if someone offered it. I would add ice though.
There you have it. Keep an eye out for it when shopping. Maybe it will be in Michigan soon. I would be interested in your opinions too.
