Summerzcool Art Projects

We’re used to seeing Buffett references in “Arlo & Janis”, but we never expected him to show up in, of all things, “Blondie”!
This is the strip from Friday, June 12.

What makes Blondie stranger?

Also, Buffett World calls attention to an iPhone app designed for Jimmy Buffett fans and concertgoers. It’s called iEncore and is available in the iTunes App Store [link opens iTunes].

FIns to the future

We’ve tried to keep tabs on other Buffett-inspired and -related apps, check out the ever-growing list here.
Update: here’s another multimedia mention, from one podcast to another. The guys of the 24 Cast are now doing a podcast called The Complete Guide to Everything*. Their latest episode is about “Hamburgers” which leads to an extended segment on Jimmy Buffett. The clip is too long to include in one of our shows, so we’ll just link to the episode. The Buffett segment is 7:10 in and runs over four minutes (with a callback at 13:15). [Added 6/16]

When worlds collide. All three “Weak in Review” stories from Friday’s Rachel Maddow Show have a remarkable connection to our podcast.

They used Buffett music for the first two stories and then, for good measure, wrapped up with a Jonas story just for Scott and Schmoe! Could Kent Jones be one of our listeners? (Or would that mean he’s weak?)
Actually, this is not the first time Buffett music has appeared in The Rachel Maddow Show

Episode 102: Peacemakers of the Lost Ark

Show Notes:
Recorded Wednesday, May 20 2009 (10:00 PM – 12:00 AM) at Zodiac Racquet Club, Southgate MI
“In the wake of the recent concert at The Ark, the Roger Clyne podcast takes over at 24:08 and doesn’t let up till morning; but before that, the boys rehash the first two of May’s Summerzcool concerts.  (Special guest: Jennifer.)

This episode is almost an hour which can only mean the guys are rhapsodizing about Roger Clyne again, fresh from seeing him in Ann Arbor on May 16.
Not sure how The Ark is “lost”, but it seemed a better parody title than “Ark of the Contraband”.
Audio levels are quite bad at the start of the episode but even out after a while.  This was an unforeseen effect of using the same recorder for the Clyne concert and stupidly (oh all right, drunkenly) forgetting to re-adjust the levels before starting our podcast session.
03:06Buffett News’s write-up on tour date changes.  The October/November tour dates which disappeared from Margaritaville.com have already been reinstated, with slight emendation.

07:38 – for the record, Greg’s comment is really about Savannah Jane.  I confused Savannah Jane’s Thursday interview with Kristin’s Saturday interview during the news segment, but this mistaken attribution was edited out.

26:25 – I wish now that I’d said “schooled” instead of “scolded”
29:54 – in our area, Roger Clyne and Peacemakers are playing Chicago on Friday, May 15; Ann Arbor on Saturday, May 16; and Cleveland on Sunday, May 17.

04:57 – featuring the talents of Jim Auquier (The Jimmy Show) and Rob Norum of, together, Acoustic Rewind.
05:30 – we had to whip up a final verse on the spot. I think Scott offered the “Shadows tall” line, about which I was skeptical. I doubted the tilt of the Earth was substantial enough to change shadows in Autumn and the rhyme smacked of desperation. The following morning Scott “took me to school”, offering the following information in an e-mail.

Summer sunlight is more direct. More energy per unit area is received by sun. Thin[k] of the longer shadows cast in winter. Also think of the beam of a flashlight illuminating a spot on a table: Direct illumination provides maximum light per unit area. Tilting the flashlight means that the beam is spread over more area but its is giving of the same energy per unit time. Thus the energy per unit time per area is smaller in the tilted case, and similarly as applies to the sun in the winter.

10:21 – …that said, the acoustic guitar in the clip you heard was Jim Auquier
