The American Talib

I guess my local newspaper thinks I’m stupid.
They keep referring to notorious traitor-in-training John Walker Lindh as the “American Taliban”. Apparently they forgot that “Taliban” is plural. That’s why when we were fighting to oust the Taliban our intent was to remove more than one person. I guess when the Detroit Free Press discussed our attacks against the “Taliban” they thought we were using our military might to go after one guy, presumably the Aghani counterpart to this “American Taliban&#8221. Or maybe Lindh has split personalities (which would explain a lot) and that’s why he’s described in the plural.
Wouldn’t it be better though if the Free Press, and many other simple-minded news outlets, referred to Lindh as the “American Talib”? In this way they’d not only be correct, they’d also be less insulting and condescending to their readership.
