Following this, I wanted to write something about the rumors that David Letterman might be going to ABC late night. It’s great to see networks fighting over Letterman, to see him getting the national recognition he deserves (maybe one day there will be an explanation why the awkward and uncomfortable-looking Jay Leno gets consistently better ratings). But, Letterman has already decided to stay with CBS. This was welcome news. I like the thought of him continuing his show in his own Broadway theater, assailing New Yorkers on the sidewalk outside. (It’s funny how when he switched to CBS I couldn’t imagine what kind of humor he could derive without being able to play in the hallways of NBC’s Black Rock building. And then when there were rumors he’d be moving to an ABC studio, I couldn’t imagine how he’d be able to derive any humor without doing remotes from his neighboring stores.)
And thirdly, I felt the need to beg forgiveness from all that is decent and right for the blight known as Fox’s Celebrity Boxing. What a sickening and pathetic display. I made sure not to watch it, but I’m chagrined to admit that some family members did. It raises the question how low can Fox go…and how many sad, jaded, deluded millions will tune in?
