I’ve Been Published

As members of The Lord of the Rings movie fan club, we had the chance to submit questions to be asked of director Peter Jackson for an interview in the fan club magazine. I sent in my question back on March 30. I received the third issue of the magazine last night, and discovered quite unexpectedly that my question and my name were right there in print, on page 24!

For the record, Jackson shot down my question, saying that audience reaction to the first film, The Fellowship of the Ring, was what really influenced his edit of the second movie. However, responding to a subsequent question, he said that one scene he was sad to remove from the first film was Galadriel’s gift-giving, since it is referred to later in the story. So he was pleased to be able to include it in the expanded DVD, and it was at his insistence that this DVD would be released before the next movie. So I guess the answer to my question is both yes and no.
Still, I am quite delighted that my question was used (that ‘Peter Jackson has now recognized me as a fellow human being’, to paraphrase a coworker). And what makes it an even bigger thrill is that they even spelled my name right.
