Congratulations to Ray Harryhausen, creator of many memorable and mythic stop-motion animated characters, who now, today, has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. According to
this article, the honor was achieved through the strong backing of Peter Jackson, Tom Hanks, James Cameron, George Lucas, and Steven Spielberg — along with determined efforts by long-time fan Arnold Kunert, who was also instrumental in campaigning for Harryhausen’s honorary Oscar in 1992. Mr Harryhausen, 83, resides in London.

But is this even as great an honor as he received by having the restaurant in Monsters, Inc. named after him? (I am correct here, aren’t I?)
Harry was a true pioneer in the field.
If you think about it, all those guys who make the lego men movies, owe him a debt of gratitude. 🙂
It should be noted that Arnold Kunert spent nearly five years trying to convince the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to honor Ray Harryhausen with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It’s true that Lucas, Spielberg and other luminaries contributed cash to the project (totalling $15,000), but Mr. Kunert did all of the groundwork and was finally successful.
