S.O.S.

Can a video card cause me to lose my broadband connection? I needed to send my ATI All-in-Wonder in this morning to get repaired (for reasons illustrated here); and a coworker loaned me his nVidia graphics card, since he has a spare after upgrading in order to play Star Wars Galaxies. Ever since installing the new graphics card my cable modem keeps losing connection and resetting itself! I can’t fathom how it could be connected, but it’s still an uncanny coincidence. Is anyone else in the Comcast, Downriver area experiencing outages?
Actually, it’s more likely due to the electrical work done over this weekend, putting in new outlets and switches.
But then again, that was finished on Monday and the cable modem problem didn’t start till Tuesday night…right after I switched graphics cards.
(And yes I deleted all ATI software and drivers before installing the nVidia card. And, yes, I got an nVidia driver this morning. And the problem still remains.)
P.S. I’m typing this at 9:33…I can only guess when I’ll catch a break and be able to publish it.

    It’s entirely possible.
The A-I-W is one of those TV cards, yeah?
When I worked for Brand-X National DSL provider, our external modem ran at 900Mhz…enough to futz people’s brand new 900Mhz cordless phones. Nothing we could do, because both the phone and our modem had that FCC message that basically says ‘the radio active emmissions from this device could futz with other devices and there ain’t a damn thing you can do about it.’
Okay, it didn’t say that exactly, but I think you know which little label I’m talking about (on TVs, phones, radios…)

Actually it’s the absence of my AIW that is futzing up my cable modem.

We’ll see in fourteen or so days, when ATI says they should be sending my video card back.

…actually it’s because you’re using a bloody pc man…if it were a mac it would just simply work. my guess is the pc was configured a certain way before removing the original card and adding the loaner one…so i would have to agree w/the first poster.

I’m on Comcast here in Ecorse (connected through Melvindale) and I haven’t had any outages
