Today in Food (2004/01/07)

Two stories today, seeing as I was remiss on Sunday for not pointing out that Detroit is now listed as the fattest city in the country. I’ve made note of this list before, and in the last couple years Detroit has been listed as number three. At last we’ve made it to number one! Congratulations all around. I hope I’m not being immodest in suggesting this site might have played some part in this victory, though I have to warn that my diet might threaten the hope of a repeat. (By the way, Big Fat Blog has a nice archived article on why the criteria behind the yearly Men’s Fitness list is flawed.)
Also, according to the New York Times, McDonald’s “began displaying posters and brochures yesterday that show how the company’s products can fit into low-carbohydrate, low-fat and low-calorie meal plans.
“Consumers may delete buns, condiments and, in some cases, lettuce and tomatoes, but the cost of each menu item will not change, a McDonald’s spokeswoman said.”
No word on whether customers can exchange their burgers for food.
