Dial 22824-22*

To enfore New York’s cell phone ban, an assemblyman wants to set up a hotline to turn lawbreakers in. As described in Tech Live‘s report:
“It’s illegal in New York state to use a cellphone while driving, but studies show people still do it. Brooklyn Assemblyman Feliz Ortiz wants the state Department of Motor Vehicles to set up a public hotline so motorists can turn in offenders. Offenders would get a warning the first time and face fines afterward. False reports would be fined, too.”
So, if you’re on the road in New York and see someone illegally using a cell phone, you are obligated to call some emergency number on your own cell phone. I can imagine the phone call now. “Hello, you’ve reached the Cell Phone Whistleblower Hotline. Ha ha, we caught you.”
Some call it law enforcement. Others call it irony. A certain Mon Calamarian Admiral would call it a trap.
*22824-22 is my pun on “CATCH-22”. As if it were a phone number, get it?
