In other news, I was unable to watch the first Kerry/Bush debate tonight since I was working late. The best I could do was read viewer reactions as they were blogged. So far, according to the spin on the news sites, the consensus is that no matter what was actually said, George W Bush…is …the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being they’ve ever known in their life.
P.S.: hey movie fans, that last quote was from 1962’s The Manchurian Candidate.
P.P.S.: I’m watching my tape of the debate right now. Did Bush tonight remind anyone else of Nathan Thurm?
^#8220;Of course we’re doing everything we can to protect America. Why would you say that? I didn’t say that — you said that. I wake up every day thinking about how best to protect America. That’s my job. I know that. I work with Director Mueller of the FBI — comes in my office when I’m in Washington every morning, talking about how to protect us. I know that. Of course I know that. There’s a lot of really good people working hard to do so. It’s hard work.”
P.P.P.S.: Bush repeated and repeated a mantra on how Kerry believes Iraq is the “wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time”, and how the statement of this belief will demoralize our troops. (As if they weren’t demoralized already just from being there. But no, you better think positive thoughts, everyone! You have to clap your hands or Tinkerbell will die!) Meanwhile, Bush says we need to be over there to keep the terrorists from hitting us over here. Oh okay, Bush is using the troops as bait. “You are the President’s bug light.” Yeah, that will really help morale.
