Happy Birthday

Can’t let the day pass without noting it’s been one year since I ditched Windows and switched to Mac. Coincidentally, two days ago, I broke my G5’s uptime record. Previously it was 16 days of continual uninterrupted use. Sure, there are some who claim months of uptime, but they count the time their computer has been powered on; I count it from last reboot…mainly because that’s how my uptime widget counts it. On Saturday my G5 attained its personal best of 24½ days (and I only stopped the count because I needed to reboot after installing an update for Little Snitch).
Happy Birthday Zaphod! (That being the name of my dual-processor Power Mac.) Here’s to many more!
For old times’ sake, here’s a look at the history of Ctrl+Alt+Del.

I’m glad to hear you are getting good uptime with a MAC. What I don’t get is why you would think you needed to switch to make it happen. I’ve gone 30, 45 and 60 days at a time this past year on my PC at a time. The real trick is waiting to do all reboot neccesary updates at the same time. Of course, this has been a bad month because thunderstorms have interrupted power 5 times this month. I think it important to mention that I use AMD, and not Intel. MS XP SP1 – SP2 has been very good to me. I’ve been completely happy with uptime on the P2P network and remote access for free through MS. Honestly, Good luck with your dual processor MAC. It sounds fast. I”ll be buying a dual socket board and adding two dual core AMD”s this fall to run on XP64. Care to compare speed this october?

I’m happy to read things are well for you and your computer. I didn’t meant to imply that my uptime was of that much importance. It was only that I’d beaten my personal best (16 days, which I’d only tied before). I never really cared about uptime, previously being one of those people who would shut their computer off every night, but my Power Mac is so quiet that leaving it on overnight is no bother. Also, I never switched because of the uptime — I switched for the iMovie, iDVD, and Final Cut software.
