An entry similar to this was forced into the blog to mark the end of most recent pMachine backup. And this entry marks the end of the latest Expression Engine backup. As far as can be determined, this means the blog is completely restored. This was actually achieved at 3:20 PM on Thursday, June 10 2021. It took till tonight to recreate all the comments (at least those worth recreating, those that were not undiluted spam). It could not be determined when the comments had originally been made — at least not as easily as deciphering when the entries were written — so the date on most all comments is when it was input into WordPress, not when it was first written — similar to my explanation in entry #336, when I moved the blog to a new host. I apologize if the comment dates cause any confusion.The blog moved again, in late 2012. At that time the web host updated their PHP version and my old, deprecated installation of Expression Engine would no longer function. All that would display was a white screen. I knew no way to fix it (and was too cheap to buy the pro version of Expression Engine) so my solution was to reinstall Expression Engine on a server. This time though I wanted to use WordPress (I assumed its ubiquity made it more reliable)…but since there’s no easy conversion from Expression Engine to WordPress, I would have to enter all the entries in by hand. I did new entries as well as recreating the old ones, hoping to meet somewhere in the middle. At that time, since I was doing most of my “blogging” on Twitter, the new entries were mainly copy-and-pasted from Twitter and embeds from Instagram. Meanwhile I was able to recreate to first three hundred entries, but then ran out of steam and the SFG blog sat dormant for a number of years.
Recently, I let my payments for that webspace lapse, to save costs. It would’ve made sense to make a backup of my work so far, to give me a head start here, but apparently I’m not that forward thinking. When I got the impulsive idea to recreate this blog again I had to start from zero. Using my old SQL files, it took from May 15 to tonight to finish the job, comments included, but at least it’s done. And I surprised myself by getting it to look an awful lot like the original design.
