German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, along with French President “Black Jacques” Chirac, is refusing to support the recent US draft resolution asking for international assistance in running post-war Iraq, according to
today’s AP article. “Their stance threatened to reopen a barely healed trans-Atlantic rift over their ardent opposition to the Iraq war,” says the article.
The US threatened immediate and extreme retribution, but, sources say, ran into a stumbling block. “The House cafeteria was all set to rename German Potato Salad,” said an anonymous source, “but it’s tough coming up with patriotic ‘G’ words. We tried God Bless Potato Salad, but people thought it was just a new promotion slogan.”
