Musical Stocking Stuffers

Ahh, too bad. You missed it.
This page [my old Music page] was never intended as a place to distribute pirated music, but during the Holidays there were a few things I simply felt like sharing. So I offered some Christmas music, some of my favorite tracks from my favorite Christmas albums.
The first item, on November 28 was from The Boston Camerata conducted by Joel Cohen. It was Sherburne from their album An American Christmas (Erato: 4509-92874-2, 1993). You can find more about this talented group here.
The next Christmas song, Words from an Old Spanish Carol (uploaded December 7) came from The Animals’ Christmas, an album featuring an anthology of poems describing the Nativity as witnessed by the animals involved. Set to music by Jimmy Webb, the album features the vocal talents of Amy Grant and Art Garfunkel, a children’s choir, and the lively support of the London Symphony Orchestra. (Columbia: CK 40212.)
The final Christmas offering (on the first day of Hanukkah, December 22) came from my favorite Christmas album of all. Sure, there are some who like Nat King Cole or Burl Ives, for nostalgic reasons, but the best of the contemporary holiday albums is Amy Grant’s A Christmas Album (Myrrh: 7-01-676827-9), from 1983. A lot of Christmas albums are sugary and cloying, but this one has some actual majesty and power — best evidenced by this thrilling track. You don’t get to say this often about Christmas records, but you’ve got to play Hark the Herald loud!
