Today in Food (2004/03/03)

Consider this the antithesis of Super Tueday. McDonald’s announced today it is downsizing its supersizing. The 7-ounce fries (610 calories) and 42-ounce drink containers will be gone by the end of the year. Some say this is in reaction to criticisms of McDonald’s unhealthy menu, others that this is just a business decision. McDonald’s claims the decision comes as a way to simplify their menu.
It would be easy to consider this as terrible, heartbreaking news for us. But the truth is there’s no rule saying you can only buy one serving of fries. So I can see why McDonald’s would consider this to be a business decision above being a good PR move. (From AP and Yahoo!.)
