Today in Food (2004/03/05)

I was shocked this morning to discover Wendy’s does not sell a fish sandwich. I was informed the fish sandwich did not sell well over the Winter, and it was a corporate decision to remove it from the Wendy’s menu. What boggles my mind is that right now is the season of Lent, the season of fish on Fridays, the one time of the year when Wendy’s should be offering a fish sandwich! In fact, McDonald’s created the first fish sandwich just so they could attract Catholics during Lent. I know Wendy’s offers special sandwiches every month or so, so why would it be so difficult to add the fish sandwich right now, between late February and mid-April?
I have to admit I feel rather insulted by this, by the fact Wendy’s is apparently not interested in my business this Spring. Don’t they own a calendar? Why would they want to turn me and 60 million other Catholics away every Friday? How could they be so insensitive? Why doesn’t their website have an e-mail address? And, lastly, ?!   [3/5/04 3:52 PM]
Update: I spoke this afternoon with a woman from Wendy’s corporate office. She assured me Wendy’s is indeed selling a fish sandwich during Lent. She confirmed it is selling in Ohio restaurants (where the corporate office is) but has no idea why the item is not being sold in my area, adding she’d heard from ten other Michigan customers a similar complaint. It is somewhat understandable if a franchise outlet does not sell the item, but even restaurants owned by Wendy’s are reportedly not selling the fish sandwich in Michigan, and she has no explanation why. She promised to look into the situation and get back with me.

To whom it may concern, My husband I visited one of your stores today 7/21/04 at 5:45 pm central Florida time on 17/92 in the Longwood Plaza. First off we don’t normaly complain about much, but we had the worst experience ever in this Wendy’s. It started at the counter, the cashier was (ok) then after rushing us though our order she took her hamburger out side and sat next to the exit door to eat it, while other employees sat on the sidewalk and kept her company. Then the only man that was in the building handling food was watching me try to get katchup out of an empty container that the lid was all messy and hanging off. He then got in a car outside and drove off while there where a couple standing at the front waiting to place an order and all where out side. the floor where a mess and tables had food on them. chairs needed to be wiped off. Finaly someone came in and took the order. after a long time…… We travel alot and Winter Springs Florida is our home town, I lived on Wendy’s for three weeks while my father was in the hosiptal in Daytona & that store needs help. I was in the resturant business for 14 years and I know that is hard to find good help, but the onwer must be around to see his or her profits walking out the door. It looked like a hang out for the neighborhood kids. Didn’t see one person with gloves on even after coming from out side smoking or wash thier hands. I guess I just notice the health issuse like that because I was in the training program. We asked for a comment card they didn’t have one for me to fill out. Good food when it is not dried out and the fries are cooked fresh. The lighted sign out front was missing one side. The bathroom had two toilets but no stalls or doors. We had 45 minutes to wait for others to meet us and didn’t want them to eat there. So that will be the last itme in that store. I hope that this message gets to the right person so that things improve. Make Dave Proud…… Thanks for listening.

    To Whom it may concern,
I have a disagreement with an employee that works at the Wendy’s here in La Grande and I had called to see if she was working and she was and i asked her when she was getting off cause I didnt like her services and she asked for my name and I wouldnt give it to her so she told me she was going to be there ALL day and NOT to come in. I then called to complain about that and never got a response back like I was told I would so the next time I went in I talked to the Manager and she told me I was not to be on the property of Wendy’s but had never been told I could never be there. I was told that Don the store manager would be in touch and it has been like a month and still no respond. I would like something done cause that isn’t good customer services and so I would like to hear from this PLEASE!
    Thankyou,
    Becky
