Never Forget

I’m told 43% of respondents to a CNN poll say they still believe Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9/11. With that in mind, I would like to point them to these two quotes.

    Friday, June 18 2004:
President Bush yesterday defended his assertions that there was a relationship between Saddam Hussein’s Iraq and Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda, putting him at odds with this week’s finding of the bipartisan Sept. 11 commission.
“The reason I keep insisting that there was a relationship between Iraq and Saddam and al Qaeda: because there was a relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda,” Bush said after a Cabinet meeting. As evidence, he cited Iraqi intelligence officers’ meeting with bin Laden in Sudan. “There’s numerous contacts between the two,” Bush said.
Washington Post

    Saturday, September 9 2006:
The Senate intelligence committee Friday said it had found no evidence that Saddam Hussein had ties to Al-Qaida or provided safe harbor to one of its most notorious operatives, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi — conclusions contradicting claims by the Bush administration before it invaded Iraq.
In a long-awaited report, the committee determined that the former Iraqi dictator was wary of Al-Qaida, repeatedly rebuffed requests from its leader, Osama bin Laden, for assistance and sought to capture Zarqawi when the deadly terrorist turned up in Baghdad.
Los Angeles Times

No need for a grand jury, no need for DNA evidence, no need for a stained dress. Your president lied to you. He has contnuously lied to us and has sent thousands to die for his made-up neo-con bullshit. He, and his vice president, shoud be impeached.
Don’t take my word for it. Read the report yourself (in PDF format).

Mickey-Mousing with History

I had the chance to see an advance screener copy of ABC’s Path to 9/11 mini-series, which will be airing Sunday and Monday. The five-and-a-half movie is being assailed by liberals accusing the producers of taking liberties with the historical record. ABC defends the production by saying it is not a documentary but a dramatic retelling. I don’t know about that, but I have to say the movie was exceptionally well-written and well-acted. I was impressed with the nail-biting suspense and action — especially the way it ended. At the risk of spoiling it for people, I thought it was really cool how they show the president landing a helicopter on the wing of the American Airlines Flight 77, killing Mohamed Atta with his bare hands, and then pulling off Atta’s beard to reveal it’s really former President Bill Clinton! Unbelievable! And if that wasn’t cool enough, Bush kills all the other terrorists in the cockpit and then lands the plane safely on the roof of the World Trade Center! I have to tell you the special effects in this part were really exceptional and look as good as any Hollywood blockbuster.
It’s strange that I seem to recall our President sitting on his ass reading kiddie books the morning of September 11 2001, but I guess I’m wrong. I mean ABC says that the movie is based on the 9/11 Commission’s findings and there’s no reason for me to believe my TV would lie to me. I enjoyed the mini-series so much I can’t wait for a sequel. I’m sure ABC has to continue the story, like when Saddam Hussein set a timer so George Bush only had two minutes in which to deactivate that nuclear bomb strapped to Condoleezza Rice’s bikini. That would be awesome.
It’s thirteen:o’clock, baby. All hail our brave and glorious leader!

No-Synch Tech Tip

It was ticking me off that I couldn’t hook up my iPod to my laptop without losing all the podcasts I synch-up from my desktop. I found however that there is a way to keep iTunes ftom automatically synching to an iPod. I learned it from PCNX.com. They state that I have to “hold down CTRL+OPTION” “from the moment you plug your iPod in until it appears in iTunes”. This is great news for me, but in fact it’s wrong. I discovered, after once again getting all my podcasts wiped off my iPod, that it’s actually the ⌘+OPTION [COMMAND+OPTION] keys.
For Windows users, hold down the CTRL+SHIFT keys.

Emmys 2006

For a change I did not do any live blogging Sunday. Instead I chose to actually watch the awards, as the live blogging thing although fun is quite a distraction.  There’s the benefit of having time for consideration, but the drawback is my reactions end up looking a lot like all the other Emmy reviews today.  Plus there’s the lack of immediacy from waiting a day.
But, in regards to the show itself: I was immediately shocked to find the telecast was not shown in high-def.  Armed with a new EyeTV 500 MiniHD box for my computer I was all set to watch in super-duper 1080i HDTV…only to find the show was plain old SDTV.  I guess NBC had no faith in their ratings, but it raises the question why a showcase for the best in television wasn’t displayed in the best television technology.
I guess I can’t fault the Kentucky broadcaster who was outraged over the show starting with a plane crash, nor with NBC for being compelled to apologize for it.  I guess they were just overly sensitized to Sunday morning’s news, since otherwise the plane crash was very innocuous; and in fact, there isn’t even a plane crash.  There are just shots of extreme turbulence, followed by a shot of Conan O’Brien climbing out of the sea.  The comedy bits that followed were quite good, and I greatly enjoyed seeing the cast members from Lost, The Office, House, and especially 24 appearing within.  After a bright beginning, the show threatened to recede into the same old crap as wins for Will & Grace, West Wing, and Monk were announced.  I guess Jeremy Piven is well-regarded, but I still wanted the supporting actor in a comedy award to go to Will Arnett.  After all, Arnett deserves an award for pretty much kissing off any serious acting roles after such a insanely loopy performance as GOB.  I was also annoyed by the My Name is Earl win for best comedy series writing.  Yeah the show is fun to watch, but I have yet to actually laugh at it.  At best, maybe a smile.  Any comedy writing award has to go to Arrested Development, a show with more laughs per scene than other series have in entire seasons.
    — Dammit!  Fox sucks!
Fortunately things picked up once Jon Cassar won for directing 24, leading to much-deserved wins for Kiefer and for the series itself.  I’m constantly impressed how 24 can bring up the most ludicrous and unbelievable situations yet still ground them with the conviction of Kiefer’s performance. And Sean Callery won for best music, at the technical awards held eight days before.  It’s too bad Gregory Itzin and especially Jean Smart could not win too.  I was pleased to see The Office win for best comedy series, but I was not-so-secretly rooting for Arrested Development.  Even with only thirteen episodes in its final season [–Dammit!  Fox sucks!], it was still a comedy triumph; but I can’t begrudge an Office win.  The series really came into its own last year, sloughing out of the shadow of the British original…and a win for the show got Jenna Fischer and her gown on stage.

Ad Homonym

Now this is just plain funny. An Apple spokeswoman, discussing the longevity of iPods, said they will last “for years”. She was speaking with a Chicago Tribune reporter, and was evidently misheard because when the interview was printed her quote was transcribed as an iPod will last “four years”!

Add Comcast to the List of Things That Suck (Right Behind Fox)

Has Comcast failed again? I think it was last year and in 2002 that their main DNS server failed, knocking out their customers’ Internet access nationally. And it feels like this has happened again. I was unable to get my e-mail or reach any websites this morning…until I changed my DNS server.
Information on how to do this, and what to change it to, can be seen here…provided you can reach it.

Junk

Quite often I have problems with the way Apple’s Mail program separates junk mail. But then there are other days when it gets it spot on.

Unhand Me, You President!

The President is off his meds again! Call the White House HR Department. Unable to stop being the drunken fratboy among his elders at the G8 Summit, President Bush tried to give a love squeeze to the German Chancellor. Ms Merkel reacted surprisingly coldly to Mr Smooth’s advances.

Bushit

Hey kids, it’s the video everyone’s talking about! The one from earlier today, at the G8 in St Petersburg. The one where George W Bush, that paragon of virtue and all that is Christian, gets caught saying a bad word. (Like he’s some major league asshole or something.)
What I’m really appalled by — what I find is the real scandal — is the way he eats! Watch the video. Our President looks like a cow chewing her cud!
Why do they let him out in public like that?!
For extra fun, count all the errors in the captions.
