New Look

“We still got to do another show
Another new look, for the new tour. This is kind of what I had in mind the first time, but I’m not sure how successful it is. I expect I’ll still be working on it.
Well, I finally got my hands on my ticket for next Tuesday’s concert. It’s hard to get too excited by it, since it’s only a Lawn ticket. I’m sure a lot of people would be thrilled by a Lawn ticket (they’re selling for around $100 bucks or more), but I’m not going to the Buffett show for the party, I’m going for the music. So we’re still trying to scrounge up a pavilion ticket in the next couple days. At least though we’ve got tickets. We can at least get inside the place. Can’t promise much in the way of sound though, as far as my Setlists page goes. But then, if all else fails, I’m planning on recording Radio Margaritaville that night too.
As with everything, we’ll have to wait and see.

Downage

I guess there was some trouble with the old Short Fat Guy domain over the week. I suspect it was too lazy to get up off the recliner and answer the door.
This seems to happen a lot on the weekends. Some part of the Internet always seems to take a dive come Friday afternoon and won’t come back till Monday. Be it e-mail, newsgroups, or web sites, I always seem to have a problem with the Web on weekends.

    “Bootleg Swatches, cardboard Gucci gear
Introducing some actual Short Fat Guy merchandising! Now available, SHORT FAT GUY Baseball Caps!
They’re high quality and fully embroidered, with the SFG logo on the front and “www.shortfatguy.com” on the back. The price is only $15 and this includes postage! Let’s see you pay that for a Beach House on the Moon souvenir! (Sorry, that was out of line. But still — what a deal!)
Click on the cap at left to reach the sale page [sorry, offer no longer valid], for more information.

Tables

I guess the changes speak for themselves. I was bored and restless today, apparently; and I had the sudden yearning to do a little Spring cleaning. The house is still a mess, but at least the homepage is a bit less cluttered.
Changes are due for my Audio Island page as well, but I’m still not sure exactly what. Its background though has been up far too long. And I still need to get around to completing some other page ideas I’ve been thinking of.
Anyway…the myCaster broadcasts continue, every evening from around seven to nine (EDT). As before, any requests can be sent via ICQ at # 24657523.

SFG…On the Air!

Welcome to my latest obsession. At long last (after close to fifteen years) I’ve become a broadcaster again, through myCaster. I toyed around with them a while ago, but I didn’t have a decent Internet connection then. But now, my cable modem has allowed me to go on the air, to all the ships at sea.
    This…is Short Fat Guy Radio!

I’ve been broadcasting every evening from around seven to nine. Come visit. And there will be a special broadcast on April 24, which you can read about at my Li’l Stubby & the Disappointments page. And, by the way, requests can be sent to ICQ# 24657523.

Changes

At long last I finally got BeOS 5 (the free, personal edition) up to speed on my computer — not only with sound and color but with Internet access and e-mail . My joy is tempered however by the realization my web pages look like crap in the built-in NetPositive browser.
Changes needed to be made. The Java had to go. Actually, the Java got moved, to its own webcam page. The image to the left [the webcam image, now on the right] will be fairly static from now on, but if (for some reason) you’re that determined to see if I’m online, just click on the image to go to a separate webcam page.
I hope the change isn’t too bothersome. But at least this page will show some life beyond Windows.

But I’ve got to Mambo!

Well, I received some disheartening news about one of the gadgets I planned to discuss here. A while ago I had ordered a Mambo X MP3-compatible portable CD player, and I just received word it was finally ready to ship. Unfortunately, according to the e-mail I just received, “some features have changed since the original specifications. Track and title names are no longer supported, as are the playlist and search capabilities. A constant bitrate from 64kbps – 160kbps is supported. Variable bitrate at 50% is supported (VBR50).” So reluctantly I’ve decided to cancel my order and hope for some form of second generation Mambo X.
It’s about time I did something on this [Gadgets] page though. So just for the heck of it, here’s some free software! These are programs I’ve been using for quite a while both at home and at work. In no way do I claim these programs as my own; I did not write them, they are simply freely distributed freeware:
Double Desktop – double your screen real estate by creating a virtual second desktop
        — a heinous program that will destroy Hollywood as we know it
Folder Info — find out how much space a folder uses, including subdirectories
G Photosho — turn your digital photos into a slide show screen saver

Archivist’s Note: not surprisingly, considering how old this post is, all of the above links are broken.

First Entry in My Old Gadgets Page

I’ve got two gadgets on order…and am impatient to get this page going!
[Editor’s Note: The Gadgets page did indeed get going. But then, on April 7 2003, it got absorbed into the main blog.]

Changes

I managed to do a bit of work on the website today and over the weekend.
I worked on some RealVideo files for my Buffett section and I also double-checked and updated my Links page. — All to the tune of Rhino’s stellar Superman CD reissue.

New Old Shows

“That’s a rough break for me
You’d think with all this time off I unexpectedly now have that I’d be doing more with my web site. Well, slowly but surely, I am planning on adding a few things. Look to this site for the addition of some RealVideo — nothing earth-shattering, just some footage I’ve been meaning to add to the 1999 page.
I’ve been impressed with a few sister sites which offer live audio of Jimmy Buffett, sites such as Jimmy Dreamz and Jimmy Buffett Online which offer whole concerts for download. Inspired by them, the Audio Island offers its own entire Buffett concerts: the first one I recorded, back in 1987, (accessible on the 1987 page), and the Primo Parrothead 2 show from Buckeye Lake (on the 1994 page).
