It’s Natural Disaster Day at work. Not only do we have a
coronal flare hitting us in an hour and threatening our satellite broadcasts, but we just discovered one of our AC units is flooding underneath our floor panels!
While building services works to swap out the AC condensate pump I figured I would check
Blogdex to see what the popular links are for solar flare stories. Instead I found a
remarkable story on how actor Jim Caviezel was
struck by lightning during the filming of Mel Gibson’s
The Passion of Christ. And the assistant director had been struck
twice! If that isn’t a message from above, I don’t what is. Maybe this coronal flare is all Mel Gibson’s fault, since he’s so determined to get his movie released.
O Mel, why must you in your hubris bring God’s wrath down upon us! I was also reminded about Amazon’s new Search Inside the Book feature. It’s fun searching for “

[1:59 PM] Update: Natural Disaster Day continues. Right at 2:24 PM (EDT) we had to evacuate the building for ten minutes, presumably for a fire drill.
And, less than half an hour till the End of the World…

Getting in the mood for Halloween, I watched the Evil Dead II DVD with commentary. During the commentary they started imitating Charlton Heston and I realized how great it would’ve been to have both Heston and Bruce Campbell in the same movie, hamming it up and chewing the scenery. So what. Some monkey can move a mechanical arm just through thought impulses. Big deal. I have mysterious powers too, but no one’s writing news stories about me. For instance, I can make my stomach growl just by thinking about KFC’s Popcorn Chicken. Or I can make a traffic light turn red by applying pressure to my accelerator pedal. Similarly, I can make cars ahead of me slow down merely by merging into their lane.
