Earth Day

A little post Earth Day note. Our President unveiled his “Clear Skies” environmental plan today, which awards companies points for low emissions (which they can barter to companies with high emissions). This is the great “let the marketplace decide” smokescreen Republican leaders always use when they don’t want to tread on someone’s expensive shiny shoes. (And also the reason why I’ve been waiting twenty years for HDTV.)
Al Gore’s greenness is questionable, but I thought he summed it up well (quoted from the NY Times): “Put simply, […] this administration has consistently sold out America’s future in return for short-term political gains.”
But, according to CNN, “In response to Gore’s criticism, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said: ‘I think that has more to do with internal Democratic posturing than it does with any serious assessment of the president’s environmental record. After all, [Gore] in an era of peace and prosperity made the same charges in the campaign and the voters elected President Bush.’”
Um, no, the voters didn’t. The Supreme Court did. But that’s beside the point. What is the point is it should not be ninety in April; a corporation has never done what is good for humanity but always what is good for business; and, I want my fuel cell car.

I agree with all your comments with maybe one exception. Gore’s questionable “greeness”.

Come on dude…I think gore really cares.

Glad to see you don’t REALLY believe that bush actually won the election mickey.

By the way, I highly recomend anyone reading this to check out Micheal Moores new book called “Stupid White Men”! Just the introduction is enlightening.

    Our government is a trip!

Your comments show an alarming ignorance that borders on the pathetic.

Isn’t it about time you has-been hippies gave up the tired 60’s radical politics that nearly destroyed this country?

As a young Gen-Xer, I can tell you that we are sick and tired of your extreme left wing propaganda that has been proven, time and time again, to be crap.

It’s time to grow up and throw away the tie dyes, old men. Jerry Garcia is dead. Your twisted socialist logic is intellectually bankrupt, and NO ONE among my generation takes you seriously.

I mean, seriously, when Al Gore can’t even win West Virginia (West Virginia!!!!!), you know the Democrats are on life support as a political party — kind of like their pathetic hippie hangers on from the 60’s. Get a life.

  3. Mickey says:

I didn’t know Al Gore was such a touchstone of the 60s. I also didn’t know West Virginia was so important in GWB’s plans to screw up the air we breathe.

Thanks for pointing this out, Dwayne. But to end your diatribe with “Get a life”? That’s really the best you could do? Come on you young Gen X’er. Get a real cliché.

P.S. I’m hardly a has been hippie. I wasn’t even ten when the 60s ended. (Maybe you’ll advance beyond ten when this decade’s over.)
