Around the Web on a Thursday

    The Internet is a wondrous thing, especially on slow-moving Thursday afternoons. Within its bounteous riches I was able to dive for such pearls as Office Clips.com, where I was able to repeatedly watch a fat lady fall down a trap door.
    Or, this article from the Atlantic Monthly, which describes how the government drafted thousands of pages brainstorming the peaceful transition to a post-war Iraq, only to have it all thrown out the window because “postwar planning was an impediment to war&#8221. Furthermore, since “detailed thought about the postwar situation meant facing costs and potential problems, and thus weakened the case for launching a ‘war of choice’ (the Washington term for a war not waged in immediate self-defense), it could be seen as an ‘antiwar’ undertaking.” But ultimately, “U.S. government predictions about postwar Iraq’s problems have proved as accurate as the assessments of pre-war Iraq’s strategic threat have proved flawed.”M
