I was enjoying this glimpse into the web log community, but this latest rash of hateful and abusive language has me appaulled. If this is the tenore of speech on the Internet, I might as well give this computer back to that short fat guy guy.So thank you, you hurtful and hateful people. Because of you my son can’t play Grand Theft Auto three anymore. And to think that just a short while ago people were viewing police officers as heros.

There are some derrogatorry comments in that chat thing at the bottom of the screen. A so-called random troublemaker wrote:

[censored] you pig! We want SFG back! ATTICA ATTICA! Free Huey!

Obviously this sort of slanderous and abusive talk can not and will not be tolerated. I notice by your IP address, random troublemaker, that you reside in the Canton area. I contacted the Internet Police division of their Police Department, and they seem to have your name already on file. Interesting. If you not desist in this malicious conduct you can expect another visit from them, and you can expect them to confiscate your computer, just like what happened to this one. Do not [censored] with us, sir, because hate speech, on the Internet or off, is a dangerous and serious business.

Me Again

I have to admit I’m enjoying this computer stuff. There’s definately a shortage of smut around here (alot of pictures of Nicole Kidman tho), but this Mickey guy must be quite the playa. I mean, he gets emails all the time from these college coed roomates. They’ve just set up a webcam and they keep inviting him to go see them. Unfortuneatly they need a credit card # for some reason…and I can’t use mine, since I think my wife might get pissed ;)  Oh well.

Right now I’m playing a new video game. My son wanted me to load the Grand Theft Auto 3 CD. I had to delete a bunch of files to make room for it, so, I guess, my bad if some parts of this web site show up missing. Heh heh. The game graphics are nice, but I can’t say I approve of running down police cars. Kids, don’t try this outside your home. Ha!

Anyway, just thought I’d say a few words, since the computer’s right here and all. This weblog thing is kind of cool. Maybe I’ll type up some more stuff later.

Important Announcement

Good evening. My name is Inspector William Montcrief of the Brownstown Police Department, Computer Crimes Squad. This web sight has been temporarily suspended, pending an investigation into the willfull slaying of a pet fish or betta splendens. This in itself would not warrant police action, but it has come to our attention that fish deaths are quite common in the Asteriou family.

One person, related to the accused by marriage to a brother, killed a betta by cleaning the betta’s cube with glass cleaner. A niece killed a betta by leaving it in direct sunlight and effectively boiling it in its own water.

Because of the suspicious activities of this fish killing ring, we have been forced to take action. The computer used for the Short Fat Guy Online web sight has been confiscated, not because we believe it has been used for the slaying of pet fish but because we’re pretty sure there’s some nice meaty porn hidden on here somewhere.

If any visitors to this sight have information which could assist us in our inquiries please contact the Brownstown Police Department or your local authorities.

The Who Live!

    Trick of the Spider.
Well, it’s been announced that John Entwistle’s death is the result of cocaine use, which aggravated his heart condition. What strikes me as odder than a 57 year old man with a heart condition using cocaine, is using it the night before the start of their 2002 tour. If I were on the eve of a huge tour, the one thing I’d want is something to help me sleep. I’d be taking Nyquil a sure lot sooner than I’d be using cocaine.
Be that as it may, all this news has really reawakened my interest in The Who, causing me to bring out their CDs again. It’s also caused me to dive into my old analog archives, where I dug up this tape I made of their July 25 1989 stop at the echoey, cavernous Pontiac Silverdome.

Today in Food (2002/07/26)

The Dim Refrigerator Bulb Award goes to Caesar Barber, 56, of New York, who (according to my local paper) believes he can sue the fast food industry for making him fat. “They said ‘100 percent beef’. I thought that meant it was good for you,’ said Barber, conveniently ignoring how the combos he orders are all fried.
Make no mistake, I suffer from the same fast-food-induced obesity, but I do not blame the industry for it. It would be nice to put the responsibility on them; but while fast food may have affected my midsection, it has not affected my brain. I hold no illusions of how I got this way, and Barber is either incredibly stupid or a plain old opportunist.
Still we wish Barber good health in his struggle to battle the blatantly obvious. Next up: “I speed because auto manufacturers make their car engines run too well.”

Dunkin’ Donuts

It’s hard not notice to a lot of Dunkin’ Donuts shops in the area are being remodeled — not only remodeled but totally gutted and rebuilt almost from scratch. Contributor Jeremy Fathers has the theory that these new shops would house both Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin Robbins. (And I hadn’t even known the two were related.)
But this article however suggests the remodeling is simply a new look, apparently to make the shops look more like restaurants.

I’ve Been Published

As members of The Lord of the Rings movie fan club, we had the chance to submit questions to be asked of director Peter Jackson for an interview in the fan club magazine. I sent in my question back on March 30. I received the third issue of the magazine last night, and discovered quite unexpectedly that my question and my name were right there in print, on page 24!

For the record, Jackson shot down my question, saying that audience reaction to the first film, The Fellowship of the Ring, was what really influenced his edit of the second movie. However, responding to a subsequent question, he said that one scene he was sad to remove from the first film was Galadriel’s gift-giving, since it is referred to later in the story. So he was pleased to be able to include it in the expanded DVD, and it was at his insistence that this DVD would be released before the next movie. So I guess the answer to my question is both yes and no.
Still, I am quite delighted that my question was used (that ‘Peter Jackson has now recognized me as a fellow human being’, to paraphrase a coworker). And what makes it an even bigger thrill is that they even spelled my name right.

New Look

    Howdy.
Welcome to the latest upgrade to the Audio Island. Since I redid the SFG page as a weblog, I figured I’d do the same here. (Or there, actually.) It will make updates easier for me, and it will also allow you to access previously posted information and links.
I’m not sure how well this will work, since I’ve only tested this layered frame in a couple browsers. But hopefully you’re not having a problem viewing it.

Emmys 2002

This is the third time I’ve had the chance to comment on this site on Emmy nominations. Unfortunately, now that I’ve finally remembered to comment in a timely fashion, I have to admit I’ve got nothing to say.
For someone who watches so much television, this surprises even me. I guess I simply have not been that adventurous in my TV watching, sticking to already established favorites. I haven’t bothered watching Six Feet Under; and the only new show I like, Scrubs, did not get any high profile nominations.
It’s nice to see Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry get some recognition, but this really should’ve happened four or five years ago. It would be great if John Spencer could win for his work in The West Wing, but his competition is every other male in the series. The one actress I’d be rooting for, Maura Tierney (who fit so well into ER you’d think she was one of the originals), wasn’t nominated. Probably the actor I’d most root for out of anything is the inimitable Ryan Stiles, who finally got some recognition by a nomination for “Outstanding Individual Performance In A Variety Or Music Program”. I didn’t even know he was nominated until I started doing research for this article — but go Ryan!
As far as best comedy or drama goes, I really don’t care. I still prefer The West Wing, but for some reason this year the episodes have stopped being “about something”.
Another favorite, Late Show with David Letterman, might finally get some serious competition from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. It was a draw last year with Dave getting best show, but Jon getting best writing. The same might happen this year, but I kind of doubt Dave will really win five years in a row. This would be perfectly fine by me (since, as we know, Dave’s The Man), but if someone is to break the streak I’d be content knowing it was The Daily Show. (Then again, Hollywood might feel sorry for that overrated hump Jay Leno.)
In short, of course I’ll watch, but I doubt if I’ll care.
And if The Osbournes gets any recognition — in fact, if any of that reality sewage which is undermining all that is sacred in entertainment gets any recognition — then my boot is going through the screen.
