A Little Reminder

    Yes, it’s been a while since I posted. The simple reason is that I haven’t had much to say. I can’t pass up the opportunity though to point out, at the risk of repeating myself, that George W Bush is an incompetent imbecile, a failure at everything he’s tried to accomplish, and a sociopathic liar.
    I also believe he’s our first vampire president, seeing as he seems to thrive off the blood of innocents.
    Furthermore, he’s got a stupid laugh.
    Thanks. That made me feel better. Now back to lurking.

    I was wondering if Peter Jackson’s commendable openness with fans, and TORN‘s access to him, would continue; and now I see it has. TORN is morphing into Kong is King.net. The site was down last time I checked, but it’s up now and you can already view an exclusive video clip from Mr Jackson.
    • Nicole Kidman’s next movie, Birth, boasting a scene where she reportedly bathes with a 10-year-old boy, has already garnered a lot of controversy from journalists who are envious that they still can’t score that kind of action, even now, with press credentials and everything. One aspect of the movie which so far has escaped notoriety is the great range of Kidman’s acting prowess. According to the Guardian, “Directed by British film-maker Jonathan Glazer, Birth stars Kidman as a young widower who becomes convinced that her dead husband has been reincarnated in the body of a 10-year-old boy (played by 11-year-old actor Cameron Bright).” I guess, at this point in her career, simply playing a widow is not enough of a challenge for the Oscar winner.
    • Eric Idle completes his three-part tale of adapting Monty Python & the Holy Grail for the musical-comedy theatre, and his fellow Pythons’ reaction to it. The columns not only provide behind-the-scenes information on what it takes to stage a play, but also give glimpses of what the songs may be like. I mention this mainly because I’ve got my tickets to see the play in Chicago in January, and am looking forward to it.

Mee-Mee Mee Mee-Mee-Mee

    The results are in.
    The British Association for the Advancement of Science and the BBC held a poll for favorite TV or film scientist, and the winners are The Muppet Show‘s own Dr Bunsen Honeydew and his assistant Beaker, of Muppet Labs.
    They soundly beat other contenders such as Mr Spock, Dr Who, and personal favorite Dana Scully.
    Maybe it was the talent portion of the competition that put them over.

The Shaping of Middle-earth

    I finally got a chance to see my brother Rick [and wife]’s handiwork. In decorating his son Jake’s room he had downloaded a PDF of JRR Tolkien’s map of Middle-earth, converted it to transparency, projected it onto Jake’s wall and painted it. Here is the impressive result. (Click on the image to see a large-scale photo.)

PC Magazine

    PC Magazine reviews my sweet baby. Their summation, that “most users with recent-vintage G5 machines (especially dual-2.0GHz models) don’t need to jump on this upgrade”, seems pretty freaking obvious; but the review is important in one regard: it reminds me I really need to get my hands on a 23″ Cinema Display (and a better video card).

    Sheesh! Have you seen the Jimmy Buffett rider posted at The Smoking Gun.com? It’s thirteen pages of nothing but beverage distribution. There are so many bottles being dispersed between the dressing rooms I’m surprised the performers are able to get out of the lavatory long enough to sing a song.
    No wonder Buffett never plays Pine Knob anymore. They’ve only got one party store and a gas station to supply all those beverages and the requested homemade soup and homemade Caesar salad dressing.

    According to BBC News:
    Rock band Queen, fronted by gay icon Freddie Mercury, has become the first rock act to receive an official seal of approval in Iran.
    Western music is strictly censored in the Islamic republic, where homosexuality is considered a crime.
    But an album of Queen’s greatest hits was released in Iran on Monday.
    Mercury, who died in 1991, was proud of his Iranian ancestry, and illegal bootleg albums and singles made Queen one of the most popular bands in Iran.
