    I share Jaquandor‘s dismay at this article on MSNBC.com: Amid increased hijack warnings, air marshalls are being pulled from cross-country and international flights — those most likely to be hijacked, by the way — because of, of all things, concerns that providing them hotel rooms is too costly!   [7/30 9:47 AM]
    Update: Just saw this headline from the Detroit News: “Terror warnings prompt rethink of cutbacks&#8221. The article concludes with a Homeland Security spokesman stating “There are no plans to cut any of the estimated several thousand air marshal jobs.“

Someone has provided them with this QuickTime MOV file (perhaps off the supplements of the upcoming Two Towers DVD), which provides brief glimpses of some impressive looking battle scenes. The Spielberg Giveth and the Spielberg Taketh Away

    I heard some bad news and some good news today. Both of it about Steven Spielberg TV projects, both of it old. It happened a few days ago, but I’m only reading about it today. Duel, Spielberg’s first standout movie (and a great double-bill with Jaws), was to be released on DVD in about two weeks, after over a year’s delay. Unfortunately, on July 24, Universal announced another indefinite delay. No one knows why, especially since the artwork and extra features had been announced.
    However, tempering that frustrating news is the heartening information, announced July 21, that Tom Hanks, Spielberg, and HBO are coming together to make a companion miniseries to Band of Brothers (according to The Hollywood Reporter, by way of Spielbergfilms.com). This time the focus is on the fighting in the Pacific. I’m underwhelmed by the title, that being “Untitled World War II Pacific Theater Project”; but if the miniseries is done with the same care, quality, and attention to detail as Band of Brothers it should be most excellent.

    I’ve only given my pet Fish’s e-mail address a couple times, but, amazingly he still gets lots of spam. This gave me the idea for an experiment. I’ve created a new e-mail account. I’m only going to mention it once, here. And I want to see how soon and how often the pathetic bottom-feeders glom on to it.

    Update: That proves it. Spammers are shameless. I got my first e-mails to the account today, July 29, two weeks after creating it. The first letter comes from sunsky21@freechal.com, which makes it both the winner and loser. Congratulations there, I guess.
    Having “successfully” completed the experiment, I will be deleting the “anyone-who-spams-this-eats-poo” e-mail account.

Aww, Poor Babies

    According to this story on Yahoo!, the telemarketing industry is trying to sue the FTC over their Do Not Call list.
    Says an industry representative, the FTC “ignored its obligations under the federal law and the Constitution to carefully balance the privacy interests of consumers with the First Amendment rights of legitimate telemarketers.” The article goes on to say the list could cost telemarketers $50 billion in lost sales and two million lost jobs.
    Firstly, there are already twenty-eight million numbers on the list, soon to double, so I doubt too many people would be grieving your loss. Instead of fighting to maintain a business practice nobody but lonely old people likes, why not try finding a career where you’re not despised? Secondly, all telemarketers are illegitimates. Thirdly, $50 billion??!! With that many suckers around, no wonder those telemarketing cockroaches won’t die.

The Morning After

Hi, it’s Tubby again. Mickey’s personal trainer. His coworkers were concerned he wouldn’t be able to bring in their lunch today, so I was contacted to come over and see if Mickey is doing okay. He wasn’t answering the phone yesterday, after he completed that all-day thong competition or whatever. I don’t know what the big deal is. He looked okay to me, when I got over. I mean, okay for him. He was relaxing and watching his TiVo of Bravo’s My Gay Wedding marathon; I suppose the way he was dressed could be of concern, but he says it “enhances the viewing experience.” As long as I was there I had him do his sit-up and I tried to pep him up with an injection of Taco Bell Fire sauce to the thigh. He should be rallying enough to post something later in the day. At ya later. Tubby.

The End

    Well…that’s it. I’ve blogged from 9 AM to 9 AM. My thanks to those people who sponsored me. My thanks to those people who commented. My thanks to those who simply dropped by.
    It was a lot of fun and I look forward to doing it again. Maybe I’ll even put more effort into the planning stage, though it was kind of fun having no limitations.
    I tried to keep these entries in their category, but there were a few times my subjects touched on other aspects of the site. Hopefully that might explain, to anyone who might view the archived entries, why there are occasional gaps. On occasion I added a few more entries, too, so for all I know it might just even out. (Doubtful.)
    Anyway, thanks once more. Hope we can do this again soon.
