Pimped

“Pay phones all were ringing as the crowd went roaring by
n    “A Year Without Jimmy Buffett”. It sounds like it should be a Rankin/Bass holiday special. But it appears that, yes, we’re actually not going to see Jimmy Buffett in Michigan this year. I thought it was bad in 1998 when the Carnival tour by-passed us, but at least we were able to see Jimmy in the Winter. This year he’s completely shafting us. It’s a horrible way to start off the Millennium. Years ago he used to play multiple dates here in Michigan; nowadays he can’t make it at all.
Could this site be to blame? Am I scaring Jimmy off by making audio clips available of his local shows? I can’t help but feel slightly guilty and chagrined by the whole thing, but I mean — they’re only one or two songs per concert! Come on!
I have a stronger suspicion he was turned away by the recent name change of our local music amphitheater, from Pine Knob to DTE Energy Music Theater. That would take away anyone’s enthusiasm to perform.
Regardless, the only alternative — since going without Buffett is inconceivable — is to road trip. I was on the Ticketmaster site about an hour and a half this morning, culminating in the purchase of some measly lawn tickets for Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. But, at least we can get in. Now the only problem is how to get there. It’s a long haul, but at least it’s on a weekend. The worst part about it is I’m also planning on going to see five U2 shows that same month! (U2, bless them, sells tickets through its fan club!) So I can honestly say May is going to be a madhouse.
